Pixcelation Gives Con Artists 10/10 Stars!

“I heavily enjoyed Con Artists, and when it comes to films about the nature of the voice-over industry, I couldn’t recommend it high enough, especially if you enjoy attending conventions and meeting the voice actors who attend them.”

“This movie gives a great look into what they do on a daily basis, with plenty of laughs included.”

“In the past year, I’ve taken an interest in both voice acting and the voice actors that work on the games and animation that I love. This movie gives a great look into what they do on a daily basis, with plenty of laughs included. I knew which parts of this mockumentary were “mock” because it is plain to see that Yuri, Tara, and Boris are all very sweet, funny people. If you have even a passing interest in acting, video games, or animation, please watch this movie.” – Adam Ritchie

“To view the lives (even if staged at parts!) of two inspirational figures in my life (Tara and Yuri) was something I’d like to call an honour.”

“After attending the grand online event that was Con-Con, I felt I HAD to give something back to the awesome people who had brought so many of my favourite characters to life, and the Con Artists movie was definitely it. Opening up my wallet and swinging out my card to purchase the film? I had no regrets, and still don’t. Viewing this amazing mockumentary on my big screen was a real treat, and to view the lives (even if staged at parts!) of two inspirational figures in my life (Tara and Yuri) was something I’d like to call an honour. I’ll be watching it again real soon to hop on that wild, life-of-a-VA ride once more!” – Josh Joseph

“This was a hilarious insight into V.O. and Con life for those known for their voices in game and anime.”

“I got a first viewing of this during Comic Con in London last year and had been anxious to give it a second watch. This was a hilarious insight into V.O. and Con life for those known for their voices in game and anime. Got to love Boris’ cheeky move to step in on Yuri’s space and Tara’s Mom is the best ever!! To name a favourite scene… it may have to be the airport waiting game. Watch it to find out what I mean.” – Steven Ferris

“I’ve always wanted to know more about voice acting, cons, and well—everything! That is explained perfectly in this movie and the editing just makes it better!”

“As soon as I saw the trailer for this mockumentary, I was already extremely excited to watch it and I was right to be! I’ve always wanted to know more about voice acting, cons, and well—everything!  That is explained perfectly in this movie and the editing just makes it better! I’m so glad that I bought it! Now, I can view it any time I want, which will probably be all the time. hehe! It’s not only informative, but humorous as well! 😀 Well done everyone who was involved in this amazing mockumentary!” – Danica Kojadinovic

“I wouldn’t mind seeing more stuff like this. Work from people like Mr. Lowenthal and Ms. Platt (as well as other voice actors) could stand to be shown to wider audiences.”

“I’ve seen my share of mockumentaries in my time. This one however, looks to be a real treat. I wouldn’t mind seeing more stuff like this. Work from people like Mr. Lowenthal and Ms. Platt (as well as other voice actors) could stand to be shown to wider audiences.” – Kevin Kess

Fans Get First Look at Mockumentary “CON ARTISTS” Through First-Ever Personal Online Pop-Culture Convention Experience ‘CON-CON’

CREATIVE COUPLE YURI LOWENTHAL AND TARA PLATT BEHIND NEW CON FILM + EVENT

Los Angeles, CA (November 17, 2014) – Voice-over superstars and convention veterans Yuri Lowenthal and Tara Platt are about to bring the pop culture convention experience right into fans living rooms like never before. Under their Monkey Kingdom Productions banner, the creative couple have partnered with MatterDoor Productions to create CON-CON, a live, free direct-to-fans personal convention experience on December 6th. To kick-off the event, fans will get a first-look opportunity to grab their highly-anticipated mockumentary, CON ARTISTS, four days ahead of its nationwide release on Vimeo’s On-Demand platform on December 10th.

Con Friends Con Artists chibis

Recognizing the growing popularity but sometimes expense and logistical concerns of attending a convention, Lowenthal (Prince of Persia, Ben 10, Sunset Overdrive) and Platt (Legion of Superheroes, Naruto, Persona) created this new CON-CON event in order to deliver a fun and immersive personal convention experience directly to the stay-at-home fan. The free 6-hour online event will be packed with live panels filled with celebrity guests from TV, film, videogames, and animation, an online ‘dealers room’, ‘artists alley’ and even swag give-aways. Plus, participants will get a special discount not available to the public when they purchase the new geektastic feature-length film, CON ARTISTS, during the event.

A documentary/mockumentary hybrid in the vein of “Spinal Tap” and “Waiting for Guffman,” CON ARTISTS chronicles documentary filmmaker Boris Kievsky accompanying his two ‘famous’ voice actor friends, Lowenthal and Platt, through a year of attending the weird and wonderful world of science-fiction/anime/comic book/fantasy conventions. The film stars Yuri Lowenthal, Tara Platt, and Boris Kievsky, along with a few real-life convention circuit cameos including Wil Wheaton (Tabletop, Big Bang Theory), and Aaron Douglas (Battlestar Galactica, The Bridge), Eisner Award-winning writer/director Paul Jenkins, actors Vic Mignogna (Full Metal Alchemist, Star Trek Continues) and Steve Blum (Wolverine, Cowboy Bebop).

After a year of filming at eleven conventions across the US and Canada, the trio realized that they wanted their film available directly to the fans and the otaku who have made the film possible with their rabid love of…everything they love. So Monkey Kingdom Productions and MatterDoor Productions have decided to buck the traditional distribution system in favor of one more suited to their audience: digital streaming and downloads.

“It was really important to us that the fans of this world have easy and direct access to the film. We made it with them and for them and we want them to be able to watch it as quickly and easily as possible. When looking at the traditional distribution platforms we realized that it would make it harder for those fans to access at a price point that we felt fair, so we decided to step away from the old system and get the film as quickly, easily, and cheaply into the fans hands.” Platt added, “And we couldn’t think of a better way to introduce them to the finished film than by inviting them to a con made especially for them.”

Lowenthal also noted, “Con Artists screened for audiences at conventions in London and Vegas to rave reviews and we can’t wait to get it to the rest of the fans world-wide. In the meantime, come to Con-Con!”

Nerdlush Review – “Cons and Con Artists” – With pictures!

A couple of lush nerds—wait, is that right? Well, they did come from Nerdlush. Anyway…

A couple of very cool “nerds” (Amelia Arender and Jacqueline Sherrard) came to the cast & crew screening of Con Artists. They had fun. We had fun. They asked us lots of questions that we didn’t have time to study for. Luckily, we made the movie, so we knew most of the answers. Hop on over to Nerdlush to read their review and let us know if we got it right.
